Today in the #Amplifriday spotlight is a woman who is an absolute force: a power for good, an outstanding educator, and an advocate for Indigenous education. She recently stepped into the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) spotlight after being appointed as the university’s new chancellor, and we’re so pleased to amplify the remarkable DeDe DeRose with a nomination from Danalee Baker.
Danalee writes:
DeDe is quite simply remarkable.
"I have the privilege of working with her on the Board of Directors for Day One Society. DeDe is thoughtful, a determined advocate, and an incredibly hard worker who helps make our communities better for all people. I greatly admire and appreciate her!”
Born in Williams Lake to a Secwépemc family, DeDe is a member of Esk’etemc, formerly Alkali Lake First Nation. Her Secwépemc name is Tse7ekw te Spi7uw or Sunrise Golden Eagle, and the name means Divine Spirit giving warmth, light and life. This is a fantastic description of DeDe who does exhibit tremendous warmth, light, and life! Her distinguished career includes her tenure as B.C.’s first superintendent of Aboriginal Achievement and her role as an educator and principal within Kamloops-Thompson School District 73. Her advocacy for the inclusion of Indigenous languages, history, and culture in the curriculum has been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive and comprehensive educational environment. She now is TRU’s chancellor, and in this role, presides over convocation ceremonies and serves as a member of the university’s board of governors and senate.
DeDe – you are a remarkable person of impact. As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.

Last week, we had the privilege of amplifying DeDe DeRose’s incredible impact. As part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individuals, and DeDe chose the Tyrell DeRose Memorial Fund with UBC Memorial Giving.
Dede shares, "Sadly, my son suffered from traumatic brain injury and self-medicated by using drugs and alcohol. Although he had been to rehab and tried hard to overcome his addictions, he died on January 8, 2021, from Fentanyl. Tyrell left behind an amazing daughter and son who will grow up without their father's love and adoration."
I chose this charity because Cheryl Wellington at UBC is doing outstanding research on Traumatic Brain Injury. I hope Cheryl's research will help prevent others from this sad ending.
The Tyrell DeRose Memorial Fund will support important brain injury research at UBC. In memoriam donations, like DeDe’s, fund advancements in academic programming and research, while others are key to the enrichment of the university experience for current and future generations of UBC students, faculty and alumni by providing vital support for student scholarships and bursaries.
Congratulations again, DeDe, on being amplified; we are happy to make a $100 donation to the Tyrell DeRose Memorial Fund in your honour.
