It’s possible to see beauty and hope everywhere you look. Oftentimes those who are creative and talented enough to capture that beauty through art and creative expression need a place to have their work shine in the spotlight. Today in the AmpliFriday spotlight – a place where we spotlight remarkable people of impact – we’re highlighting a dynamic person who has advocated for artists and creatives to bring honour to and recognition of their work, and that’s Margaret Chrumka.
Margaret has been a fixture in the Kamloops arts and culture scene for years now, most notably in her role as the Executive Director of the esteemed Kamloops Art Gallery (KAG), the largest public art gallery in the Interior of B.C. boasting a collection of over 3,100 works of art. In her time in her role at KAG, attendance has quadrupled and the outdoor video art event, Luminocity, has had tens of thousands of visitors with a 35 per cent increase in the last year alone. On top of that, Margaret has been the vice president of the Canadian Art Museums Directors Organization, and a Board Member of the Canadian Museums Association and BC Museums Association. She’s also been instrumental in helping a group of community members bring the vision of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts to reality.
As a person, Margaret is a kind, reflective, and joyful individual, making people feel seen and heard.
She’s shared that the work of artists has opened up opportunities for her to grapple with tough issues, feel joy, consider her perspective, and heighten her appreciation. Her work has certainly done wonders to invite many others in to experience art, an often intimidating experience for many, but one that can open minds and offer the appreciation of the talents of our fellow humans. She’s off on a new opportunity in 2025, where she will take on the role of Director of Visitor Experience and Programs for the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and we know she’ll amplify the connection of art and community there too!
Margaret – you are a remarkable person of impact! As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.
Last week, we had the privilege of amplifying Margaret Chrumka’s incredible impact. As part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individuals, and Margaret chose the Kamloops Art Gallery (KAG).
I chose the gallery because I’ve dedicated my last 12 years to ensuring that this gallery flourishes in our community and continues to grow and provide opportunities for experiences with art.
The Kamloops Art Gallery’s mission is to “Lead community engagement with art and experiences that open doors.” A true gem in the heart of downtown, free admission to the gallery on Thursdays ensures that its vision to “amplify community vibrancy” is accessible to all. The gallery also offers talks, tours, and studio programs, including free weekly school programs for homeschoolers and alternative learners. Exhibits running through the end of December are, EVERY DAY IS A DAY AT THE RACES WHEN YOU’RE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY ILL and STORIES THAT ANIMATE US.
Congratulations again, Margaret, on being amplified; we are happy to make a $100 donation to support the Kamloops Art Gallery in your honour.
